Happy Mother’s Day
This is a really big year for Mother’s Day in my family! A real transition has occurred with my children and they actually understand what it is all about. This morning, as I was standing not two feet away, my daughter announced to my husband that she was going to be a detective and find out what I want for my surprise breakfast in bed! Then she proceeded to ask me what my favourite breakfast food and drink are. Not exactly subtle, but boy am I going to be surprised!
My 5 year old has been avoiding my questions all week about the special Mother’s Day presentation at his school! There’s nothing like a youngster trying, badly, to keep a secret.
This year for Mother’s Day, I’ve decided to give my own self a present. I am going to quit beating myself up about all the little things that don’t happen. Things like the form that didn’t get handed in, the classes that I don’t get the kids to quite on time and the meals that aren’t quite up to my preferred nutritional standard. Instead, I am going to start giving myself credit for all the things that do get done. I am proud of myself for all the mornings that start with cuddles, for the kid’s events that get attended, even though I have many more work things to do, and even for all the times we are punctual!
Enjoy this Mother’s Day, don’t worry about flowers, presents, cards, just focus on the cuddles!
